Oops I Did It Again

Did I not update this site for almost a month?

I have a bad habit of doing that.

I don’t really have the time to keep this site updated as a “news” blog. That just requires way too much time for me to handle. I mean surfing around the net and picking through the garbage to try and find stuff worth writing about… it’s a lot of work!

I do hope to start updating again soon though, perhaps with less emphasis on being “newsy” and more emphasis on how awesome my opinion is.

At any rate, 10HC is NOT dead.. it’s just in a coma… and as with most comas, you just really don’t know when it will end. So I can’t give a time or anything.. but I will say “soon” because that’s a helpful statement to make.

PS-TRIPLE Firmwar 1.60 Available NOW!

Consider this a goodwill gesture to 10HC readers. I’m actually posting relevant and timely news. Imagine that.

I can confirm that background downloading is all kinds of awesome… it’s just too bad there isn’t a whole lot for me to download. There is a new XMB option where you can check your download status which allows you to check on the status of your downloads. I said downloadS because yes you can queue up a bunch of stuff to download and then go off and lose yourself in Go Sudoku for a few hours.

The other big feature of the update is Folding@home. Where you can turn your PS3 over to the greater good and allow it to do complex computer stuff all in the name of science. The science hopefully leads to finding cures for diseases. I can gladly boast that I am now “folding” as I type this and I feel like I am the greatest human being alive.

I’m sure there are various other little things included in the update, but I’m way too busy writing my Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech to check it out.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Trailer

I’m not one to shy away from posting old news… I know you’ve probably seen this already. But like the week old pizza festering away in your fridge, all it needs is some microwaves and it’s ready to enjoy again. 10 Hit Combo is your microwave oven. So here’s the first moving picture for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction!

For those who rely on 10 Hit Combo for their “daily” does of gaming, I’m sorry. Better late then never though right? So enjoy this magical 2 minutes of explosions, jumping, mayhem, smashing, and… dancing.

Koei Bringing Some Opoona to Your Wii

A little late to the party here, but a little game called Opoona was announced for the Wii recently. Although the game has a pretty good chance of escaping Japan, I wouldn’t expect the name to. I mean, look at the title of this post. I work hard for the money.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the graphics are cutesy and whimsical. What should surprise you though, is that this game is played entirely with one hand. Which sends a really confusing message. One handed play for Dead of Alive Xtreme - makes perfect sense. One handed play for cutesy RPG - WTF? It’s not the one hand you’re thinking of either. The game plays entirely with the nunchuk… leaving your other hand completely free to play with any number of different things, including your Wii-mote… the other one.

Compare and CONTRAST: Armored Core 4 PS3 vs. Xbox 360

You see what I did there? With the title? I amaze myself sometimes.

So Armored Core 4 is due to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. You own both consoles, you love piloting giant robots, and shooting stuff makes your pants uncomfortably tight… which version do you get?

Apparently, and if this video is to be believed, you get the PS3 version unless you have night vision goggles handy.

Internet Explodes: Devil May Cry 4 Going Multi-Platform

Sonymaycryyw7Ee0 475X270.Shkl

So you’ve probably heard by now that Sony has lost another exclusive. Devil May Cry 4. What this basically means is that the same people saying the game wasn’t a big deal are now popping champagne and parading through the streets, and the people who were all too happy to rub the game in Xbot faces are now claiming the game isn’t a big deal and crying into their pillows. Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

It’s hard to imagine that this would come as a surprise to anyone. Capcom, much like pretty much everyone in the world, likes to make money. With the PS3’s install base still quite low, Capcom’s bank account didn’t stand much of a chance keeping the title on the PS3.

What IS surprising is the fact that the game will launch simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Announced and touted as a PS3 exclusive from the beginning, has development of the 360 version been rapidly baking in the oven, or were there some sneaky stuffs happening behind the scenes and the game was planned for the 360 from the very beginning?

Whatever the case, this is a punch in the gut for Sony fans, who are now forced to cling desperately to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII as high profile third party exclusives.

Super Mario Galaxy: New Trailer, New Hope

Here’s a new trailer for Super Mario Galaxy. This game is going to rule! Unfortunately all we have for a release date is “2007.” I wish that meant next week because my Wii is shriveling up from neglect… and also I haven’t been playing with Nintendo’s newest system very much lately.

Seeing this trailer gives me hope. I mean look at it, it’s beautiful! Wii can do some pretty nice graphics! LOOK DEVELOPERS! YOUR GAME CAN LOOK THIS GOOD! IT’S POSSIBLE!

New Wii Channel Coming: WHY?

Mob89 1155339810 475X317.Shkl

During his keynote at today at GDC, Nintendo superstar Shigeru Miyamoto announced that there will be a new channel arriving on your Wii. It’s purpose? Well according to Kotaku, The Shiggster had this to say:

Today people are so taken with the Miis around the world. Im working on a new Mii channel.
With this channel we are going to let people compare the Miis they created in a popularity contest.

And you will be allowed to do this with people from around the world.

So yeah. Sony announces Home, and Nintendo is going to let me to enter my Wii into a “popularity contest.” I don’t even feel like making a penis joke I’m so disappointed.

PS3 Home: Live Demo

Here’s a lengthy live demonstration of Home displaying some of the features of the mini-MMO in a little more detail. Included is a look at Sony’s answer to the 360’s achievement system, which they have dubbed the Hall of Fame… which looks like a dark and scary place.

I feel like an idiot for being excited about this whole Home thing. I know I will waste all sorts of time in this thing, and accomplish very little… but something intangible is pulling me in…

Little Big Planet Makes My Crotch Little Bigger… Planet

Along with Home, Sony unveiled at GDC it’s “Game 3.0″ project, Little Big Planet. I dare you to watch this trailer and not have a smile cross your face. What is on the surface a charming co-op 2.5D multiplayer platforming game is in actuality quite a bit more. The main draw of this game will be the fact that the levels you play will be user created. Create your own level with an insane amount of customization options, and post it for others to play on and rate.

Essentially not only does this game look incredibly fun to play, but it looks like we can all try our hand at game design as well. This becomes one of my most anticipated games on any system.
